Meghan Markle has forever been known for “bending” royal traditions and for not being the ideal royal wife like Kate Middleton. And now a close friend of Prince Charles, actress Stefanie Powers, has voiced the thought in a recent interview, pointing out how the Duchess of Sussex is trying to turn the Royal Family into her “personal TV show”.

Powers, 77, who became friends with Britain’s Prince Charles through their shared love of playing polo, believes that Meghan Markle “wants to be a star, which, I’m sorry, is not what she is supposed to be doing” as her job is to be “Harry's wife, not change the royal dynamic.”

“Meghan’s role is not about being a star,” the former “Hart to Hart” actress shared with The Daily Beast. “Those headlines saying she was Hollywood royalty marrying British royalty… She had a role in a TV show. Please, she’s obviously not a great actress. She’s not gotten in the role she has taken on. Grace Kelly did (when she married Prince Rainier of Monaco), but then she was Hollywood royalty — not a bit player in a minor television series.”

According to Powers, Prince Charles’ sister Princess Anne is the “real thing” as she is both “sensational” and “totally committed to what she does.” “She has stepped back and doesn’t make a circus of life whenever she steps out,” Powers said. “She’s kind of mischievous. She has a wicked twinkle.”

Compared to Meghan Markle, Powers like the Duchess of Cambridge more who is “impeccable” and “doesn’t put a foot wrong.”

“Britain is outstanding because of the royal family, and when a member of it misbehaves they shorten its viability," she added.

Powers comments on Meghan Markle comes in the wake of the much controversial ITV documentary, “Harry & Meghan: An African Journey,” wherein the royal couple had candidly spoken about the stress and pressure they go through as Royal family members. Meghan Markle also talked about the intense media scrutiny she has to cope with on a daily basis since she married Prince Harry in May 2018.

“I really tried to adopt this British sensibility of a ‘stiff upper lip,’” Markle has shared. “I really tried, but I think that what that does internally is probably really damaging.”
