Princess Beatrice, the older daughter of Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah Ferguson, has recently made an appearance with a stunning engagement ring. Beatrice of York got engaged to real estate tycoon Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi earlier this month, keeping it a secret until they spilled the news last Thursday.

The 31-year-old’s engagement ring sports a stunning cushion-shaped diamond centerpiece, with diamond baguettes flanking the sides. Here are among some of the secrets that the sparkling jewel holds.

Edoardo Is Heavily Involved In The Design

Beatrice’s fiancé had taken a huge personal effort to be involved throughout the ring-making process. Working with famed British jeweller Shaun Leane, Edo picked a stunning 2.5 carat diamond — preferring a natural stone rather than lab-made ones.

“Edo was very prepared and he had done his research,” the jeweller said. “He had a very strong feeling about what he wanted.”

The Queen May Be The Inspiration

According to a royal expert, the ring itself may have been inspired by Beatrice’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. Her Royal Majesty’s engagement ring from Prince Philip looks pecurialy like Beatrice’s, aside from being composed primarily of diamonds.

“Like her grandmother, her aunt and cousin-in-law, Princess Beatrice has gone with an all-diamond engagement ring,” said royal expert Jason D'Heureux. “The centre diamond is also round and likely possesses very high colour and clarity.”

Its A Tribute To Sarah and Andrew

Apart from the heavy likeness of the ring to the Queen’s own, the story behind it is akin to the ring of Edo’s mother in law to be, Sarah Ferguson. The Duchess of York’s ring — a splendid ruby piece surrounded by diamonds — was also in fact designed by Prince Andrew himself.

Like the Duke and Duchess of York as well, Edoardo and Beatrice chose to keep their engagement news a secret for a while before making it public. Unlike them, however, the soon-to-be married couple kept their secret for only a week, as compared to Beatrice’s parents, who kept it for nearly a month.

It Has A Link To Meghan Markle

The ring also holds a curious link to Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, who is an avid fan of British designer Leane. Meghan had been enchanted by Leane’s work after being gifted several gold pieces last year. She was also seen sporting the Yellow Gold Vermeil Diamond Tusk Bangle at the launch of her Smart Works fashion line in London.
