Princess Diana once begged Prince Charles to not leave him. But the future king’s heartbreaking response couldn’t be more shocking.

In the book “The Queen And Di: The Untold Story,” royal author Ingrid Seward detailed an incident where the Princess of Wales resorted to extreme lengths just to get the attention of her then husband. At that time, Prince Charles was preparing to leave for an event.

“Diana wrenched at a car and then threw herself, first on to the bonnet of the car, then finally on the gravel, crying and pleading: ‘If you love me, you won’t leave me, you won’t go,’” Seward said. Unfortunately, the late royal’s pleas fell on deaf ears.

Prince Charles left his then wife and went to his royal engagement. According to Seward, what Princess Diana did was actually embarrassing.

“Diana needed attention in much the same way a drowning man needs air, and she pushed aside the restraints of both common sense and court protocols in her frantic attempts to get it. She demanded it of her husband, sometimes to an embarrassing extent,” she said.

This wasn’t the only time that the mom of Prince William and Prince Harry did something embarrassing to get Prince Charles’ attention. During another incident, Princess Diana admitted to purposely throwing herself down a flight of stairs while she was pregnant with her eldest son.

In the book “Diana: Her True Story,” royal biographer Andrew Morton had a conversation with Princess Diana, where she said that she threw herself down a flight of stairs after getting into an argument with Prince Charles. Unfortunately, her attempts to get her husband’s attention weren’t successful.

“I had told Charles I felt so desperate and I was crying my eyes out,” she said. “He said I was crying wolf … So I threw myself down the stairs. The Queen comes out, absolutely horrified, shaking — she was so frightened,” Princess Diana added.

Following the incident, Prince Charles and Princess Diana stayed married to each other. But Prince Charles was also having an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles at that time.
