Princess Diana was known to have a wide collection of impressive jewelry pieces. She had many tiaras, rings, earrings and so on that cost millions. But not many people knew that she had cheap jewelry too, and they were actually her favorites. She wore accessories that were actually imitations or made from cheap materials but tricked everyone by making them look expensive.

The Princess of Wales was the first royal to use low-priced ornaments, and she paired them with designer couture dresses. That is why no one noticed if she was wearing fake jewelry or the real thing. One of the most memorable instances where she wore one of her cheap earrings was during her official trip to the Persian Gulf in 1986.

Princess Diana was there to meet the Sultan of Oman, and she came wearing pants and a button-down blouse accessorized with crescent-moon-shaped earrings and white ballet flats. It was reported by the media that the earrings were a gift from the Sultan and was believed to cost millions since they were described as jewelry with multi-karat diamonds. But in truth, the jewelry was just a pair of simple costume earrings that the princess purchased for £23 from her favorite jewelry shop.

It is surprising to know that despite her vast collection of costly gems, Princess Diana’s real favorites were only bought from a store found in a common shopping street in London. To be more exact, it is located along the Fulham road, and it is called Butler & Wilson, a popular shop known for its wide collection of costume jewelry.

The owner of the shop, Simon Wilson, revealed that Princess Diana was a frequent shopper at their Fulham Road boutique. He said that they were impressed by the princess as she never called in to ask them to deliver what she needed. Rather, she personally dropped by and shopped.

“She would come in with just one bodyguard and buy loads and loads of earrings and pearls,” he told Diane Clehane, who was carrying out the interview for her book “Diana: The Secrets Of Her Style.” “The princess would try earrings and say to customers, ‘Do you like these?’ She wore loads of our earrings. She was just fantastic.”

Wilson further said that Princess Diana would wear the real ones if needed. But usually she just wore what she wanted, and they were mostly the inexpensive kinds. He added that the princess loved to buy these things for fun just because she really liked them.

Princess Diana was also known to restyle her jewelry and re-fashion them in her own way, like what she did to a brooch that was given to her by Queen Elizabeth. She turned it into a necklace, and the result was impressive.
