Sony has announced that the next-generation PlayStation 4 has sold one million units through the first 24 hours of its release on November 15. Which, in case you were wondering, comes up to $400 million worth of PS4's sold. The news was confirmed via Twitter by Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida, who tweeted, "PS4 has sold through over 1 million units within 24 hours of the launch in North America!" Also Sony Vice President of publishers and developer relations, Adam Boyes, added, "Thanks to all of you gamers in getting us to 1,000,000 sales of PS4 in our first 24 hours!"

Sony Computer Entertaiment president, Andrew House, said that he wanted to sell at least five million PS4's by March 2014, which is the end of the launch window. He also thanked fans for their support for PS4. "PS4 was designed with an unwavering commitment to gamers, and we are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal," said Andrew House, President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc. "Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29. We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support."

By comparison the PS3 only sold 97k units in its first two weeks of launch, however there were a supply shortage and it also cost $599. It will be interesting to see if Sony can keep this momentum especially seeing how the Xbox One will release this Friday, November 22. As of now the PS4 software numbers for the PS4 have not been released yet. Sony is well on its way of selling that five million units if it can keep up the current sales. The console will launch in Europe, Australia and New Zealand November 29 and later in 2014 in Japan.
