Royal expert Daniela Elser is worried after seeing new image of Queen Elizabeth.

In the image, the royal was seen meeting Margaret Beazley, who is the Governor of New South Wales in Australia.

According to nzherald.co.nz, Elser said that the image was taken in the Oak Room at Windsor Castle where the monarch now lives full-time. It looked like the approximately 6,743 other photos that Buckingham Palace releases. It showed the monarch in pearls and a cheerful floral number greeting a dignitary. But what was really striking in the new photo was the Queen's very concerning appearance.

Elser went on to compare the image to photos of the monarch that were taken exactly one year before. At the time, she wore the same yellow dress and met Scott Morrison, then Australian Prime Minister, reported Daily Star.

Elser noted how the 96-year-old monarch appeared '"more stooped" much thinner and to have "shrunk." She wondered how things got so bad, so fast, and how in a year have we seen the "Queen gone from riding horses, walking her dogs and driving her Range Rovers to her now reportedly using a wheelchair on occasion?"

The expert said that what the photo shows is that the "Queen would appear to be fading away before our very eyes and yet Buckingham Palace is trying to stick to their increasingly tired ‘nothing to see here’ line."

She also expressed concern over the monarch missing what were "previously non-negotiable events." In May, the Queen didn't attend the State Opening of Parliament for the first time in almost 60 years. The Palace cited "episodic mobility problems." Her son, Prince Charles, stepped in.

He also took over from the monarch on Maundy Thursday in April. It was a month after she pulled out of the Commonwealth Day service. She was also a no-show at St Paul's Cathedral for the service of thanksgiving. It happened during her Platinum Jubilee Celebrations. A few days ago, she missed Royal Ascot for the first time in 70 years. She had entered more than 10 horses across the five days.

One positive thing that Elser noted was that the Queen seemed to be in "excellent spirits" as she prepared to visit Balmoral for the summer.
