Considered the third best player in the world behind international superstars Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Tottenham's Gareth Bale continues to grow into a formidable presence both on and off the pitch. During the current transfer window, the 24-year-old had been linked with possible moves to clubs including Manchester United and Real Madrid. With the Bernabeu always appearing as the likelier of the 2 teams, multiple sources now indicate that Bale is finally set for a move away from White Hart Lane.

According to Madrid newspaper Marca, Tottenham and Real Madrid have completed a long series of talks that will culminate with the arrival of Gareth Bale at Real Madrid. With the financial terms reportedly capped off at a record €99 million, the only thing missing from the full completion of the deal according to the newspaper is a 'contract signature,' a signature that is not long away. The reported agreement will push Bale up the highest paid player column, ahead of premier stars Sergio Ramos, Xabi Alonso and Iker Casillas.

Though nothing has become official just yet, the idea of Gareth Bale heading to Real Madrid looks like a certainty. Even though Tottenham boss Andres Villas-Boas would love to hang onto all his top-level players, the Spurs' leader understands that high-profile players like Bale will always be targets of premier teams.

"Ideally we want to keep everyone to make us stronger, that is the ultimate objective of the club," Villas-Boas said recently, "In the end, anything can happen. We are dragging ourselves into the last weeks of transfer activity and it can become very, very frantic. The objective always is to be stronger than the year before and I think we are on the right way to achieve it."

Bale hasn't played for the Spurs this season due to a foot injury but that hasn't forced Real Madrid to shy away from its primary transfer target. Appearing in 146 total matches for Tottenham since joining the club in 2007, the midfielder has recorded 42 goals while serving as a formidable force on both ends of the pitch.
