The pro-Trump PAC dedicated to unseating Republican Rep. Thomas Massie has launched its first TV ad focused on times in which the lawmaker has broken with the president.
"What happened to Thomas Massie? President Trump is banning sex changes on minors, Massie voted against it. Trump is cutting taxes and saving Kentucky families $10,000. Massie voted against it. Trump is securing our border and deporting criminal aliens. Massie voted against Trump again. And after Trump obliterated Iran's nuclear program, Massie sided with Democrats and the ayatollah. Let's fire Thomas Massie," the 30-second ad, first reported by Axios, says.
The outlet added that the initiative is part of a $1 million ad buy, which will mostly air on Fox News and broadcast TV stations in Cincinnati and Louisville. It will also air digitally and be mostly aimed at Republican voters.
Massie, an isolationist who has frequently criticized the U.S.'s military support of Israel, has been one of few Republicans willing to break with Trump on different issues. The president has frequently criticized Massie, but dedicated him a lengthy post on Sunday claiming he is "not MAGA, even though he likes to say he is."
"Actually, MAGA doesn't want him, doesn't know him, and doesn't respect him. He is a negative force who almost always votes 'NO,' no matter how good something may be. He's a simple minded 'grandstander' who thinks it's good politics for Iran to have the highest level Nuclear weapon, while at the same time yelling 'DEATH TO AMERICA' at every chance they get," Trump said in a passage of his post.
"He is disrespectful to our great military, and all that they stand for, not even acknowledging their brilliance and bravery in yesterday's attack, which was a total and complete WIN. Massie should drop his fake act and start putting America First, but doesn't know how to get there," Trump added.
Massie reacted on social media, saying Trump "declared so much War on me today it should require an Act of Congress." Axios noted that the effort to unseat Massie might not be simple, as he easily beat primary challengers in the past three elections.
