Italian fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, who are both gay and were a couple for 23 years had openly rejected gay marriage in the past, but in an interview with Italian magazine Panorama they dismissed gay families and everything that involves in forming a “non-traditional” family. “The only family is the traditional one. No chemical offsprings and rented uterus: life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed.” Dolce then went on to say “children should be an act of love,” while Gabbana added, “I am opposed to the idea of a child growing up with two gay parents,” he said. “A child needs a mother and a father. I could not imagine my childhood without my mother.”

Needless to say, the statements caused outrage and Sir Elton John is calling for a boycott on the designer’s fashion brand, in which celebrities like Ricky Martin and Courtney Love have backed the British songwriter. On Sunday, Elton John wrote on his Instagram: “How dare you refer to my beautiful children as 'synthetic'. And shame on you for wagging your judgmental little fingers at IVF - a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfill their dream of having children. Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana.”

Ricky Martin, who has twin boys born via surrogate, backed the British singer by tweeting at the designers, inviting them to think about their words more carefully: “‪@dolcegabbana‪ ur voices R 2powerfull 2B spreading so much h8 http://bit.ly/1CiY63B Wake up,Its 2015 Luv urselves guys #boycottdolcegabbana
