The members of the royal family may seem to keep themselves busy all the time with itineraries chock-full of engagements, charity work and state events, but the truth is that they still make time for activities that they enjoy. Whenever they have some downtime, the royals find interesting ways to relax and do things that make them feel more like their real selves. Here are the hobbies of the royal family that will surprise you.

1. Prince Charles

While Prince Charles’ love for painting isn’t a big secret, not everybody knows that he is skilled in the dying art of hedgelaying. When he has spare time, the Prince of Wales is busy being a patron of the National Hedgelaying Society.

2. Prince William

Aside from watching movies and TV, Prince William is also passionate about flying helicopters. In fact, he worked for years as a pilot for the British Air Ambulance Service in Norfolk. The Prince of Cambridge is also the athletic type, taking part in rowing, tennis, horse riding and skiing activities whenever he’s free.

3. Prince Harry

Prince Harry loves documentary filmmaking. In 2005, he made his first documentary, “The Forgotten Kingdom — Prince Harry in Lesotho,” to raise awareness on different issues faced by developing countries like limited education, AIDS and poverty.

4. Duchess Kate

Kate Middleton is just as athletic as her husband, Prince William, but there is something she loves doing more than involving herself in sports. Over the years, she has gained a reputation for being an excellent photographer. She regularly shares photos of her family she captures herself, and she doesn’t like relying on official photographers when it comes to taking photos of her children during special events.

5. Queen Elizabeth

Although the Queen is more renowned for breeding and racing horses, she loves taking care of pigeons, too. In fact, she has already invested in a new pigeon loft on her Sandringham estate and has won several British pigeon racing competitions.

6. Duchess Meghan

Meghan Markle is known for her cooking, but not many people know that she’s also skilled at calligraphy. In fact, she once turned this hobby into a moneymaking venture so she could pay her way through college. Before she became the Duchess of Sussex, she designed wedding invitations for famous celebrities through her uniquely beautiful handwriting.
