The Queen is not happy about David Cameron sharing details about their private conversation with the public. The two of them had discussed the issue of people in Scotland wanting independence, and some of the details of that conversation were shared by the former Prime Minister without getting royal approval.

Cameron has said that he sought an opinion about Scotland from the Queen before the 2014 referendum. He had asked the Queen at that time whether she could “raise an eyebrow” about what was happening. She reportedly responded by saying that people should “think carefully about the future.”

Cameron’s comments are a part of a two-part BBC documentary, in which he was promoting his memoire. The fact that a private conversation has been discussed publicly has reportedly angered the Queen.

Royal expert Richard Kay wrote in the Daily Mail that the strong response from Buckingham Palace shows that even the Queen has a “breaking point” when it comes to such behaviour. Revealing details about the private conversation with the monarch is being seen as “an abuse of the sacred trust that must exist between Sovereign and Prime Minister.”

Royal sources have also hinted that Cameron’s actions will have an impact on the Queen’s relationship with political figures. The insiders have said that the former Prime Minister’s actions “serves no one’s interests,” and “It makes it very hard for the relationship to thrive.”

Cameron explained his comment by pointing out that he was giving a context to the situation, BBC reported. Alex Salmond, who was Scotland’s first minister, had said at that time that the Queen supported the idea of an independent Scotland, and the former Prime Minister pointed out that there was nothing to counter that.

The intention of sharing details about the conversation with the Queen was to present the counter view. Cameron, however, admitted that he probably said “too much.”
