It is Mother's Day in Mexico, and many are showing their appreciation towards their mother's unconditional love and support by gifts, dinners, or simply hugs.
Unfortunately for one migrant, who wishes to remain anonymous says she has not been able to hug her mother for over 15 years due to how her mother lives in Mexico and she lives in the United States.
"No he podido ver a mi madre en persona durante más de 15 años," the migrant said. "He vivido aquí en los Estados Unidos durante mucho tiempo, crucé cuando tenía solo 16 años. Mi mamá ahorró dinero y nos cruzó aquí para que podamos tener una vida mejor y se quedó atrás."
The migrant has been working "under the table" jobs like babysitting and cleaning houses for a living, and what she does with most of her money is heartwarming.
"Le envío dinero a mi madre, el poco dinero que gano haciendo pequeños trabajos sin futuro," she said. "No me quejo, porque sé que se sacrificó y arriesgó mucho enviándonos aquí."
She says she has not spent a Mother's Day with her mom for over 15 years, and it is something she wishes she could do one more time.
"Mi mamá está envejeciendo, hablo con ella todos los días y puedo decir que está cansada. Ella trabaja en México, pero ya sabes cómo es allá... Solo quiero abrazarla," the migrant said. "No puedo darle nada físicamente para el Día de las Madres, pero me aseguro de decirle que la amo todos los días. Hoy para el Día de las Madres, le envié más dinero del que suelo hacer, solo para que pueda salir a comer."
She said that her mother has been trying to cross into the United States for a while now but does not want to risk it due to how it is dangerous and more "security" measures.
"Ella lo ha intentado, sí, pero ya sabes, todo es más diferente ahora y hay una seguridad más avanzada. No es tan fácil como antes.," she said.
Appreciate your mom, some people are wishing a Happy Heavenly Mother's Day to their lost ones and some people cannot spend them physically with their mother's due to separation.
"Abrázalos y ámalos mientras puedas, dale muchos regalos, porque desearía poder hacer eso con mi mamá en lugar de enviar un mensaje de texto," the migrant said.
