Shakira has been giving her fans a lot to think about. The 44-year-old Latina icon recently sent followers into a tizzy after a recent display picture change on Instagram and Twitter. Speculations ran amok that the Colombian singer was sending out an underlying message about her sexuality with her new DP—resembling a Lesbian flag.

Shakira's social media DP change, which served up as a prelude to her upcoming release. Her new single “Don’t Wait Up” is slated to drop on Friday, and it’s already creating a buzz for more reasons than one.

While there wasn’t any explicit mention of her coming out as lesbian, it didn’t take long for hashtags like #shakiracomingoutintheopen and #shakiralesbian to flood Twitter. According to Variety, Shakira suggested that an earlier release was on the cards this week by her changing social media channels with multi-hued pink branding and sharing a mysterious pre-save link. She confirmed the single Tuesday afternoon by uploading a teaser video, which depicts a heated text conversation.

Sure, there’s no denying that Shakira’s current DP does have a lesbian layout, these are mere assumptions at the end of the day. Scores of users suggested that there could also be a possibility that she was blissfully unaware of what the flag implied. Or better yet, this could just be the Latina singer teasing her future track as she directed to a pre-save link that took fans to the official website of Sony. Shakira’s new offering has been kept under wraps and there’s also a good possibility of her coming out in the open on the all-new track.

Well, this isn’t the first time that the Colombian singer’s homosexual tendencies have been discussed. As reported by MEAWW, a similar buzz made the rounds back in the year 2014, when a rather raunchy video "Can’t Remember to Forget You" featuring Rihanna was launched. The video made waves, having gained over 17.1 million views on day 1 of its release and 100 million views in less than a month.

Despite the buzz, it’s important to note that these have been nothing more than assumptions. Shakira’s currently in a live-in relationship with partner and Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué since 2010, and they share two kids named Milan and Sasha.
