“Sherlock” Season 5 is one of the most anticipated shows of 2019. But, much to the fans’ dismay, the BBC network hasn’t divulged any details on the show yet. So much so, the silence has pushed viewers to speculate on the cancellation of the show.

Not too long ago, a popular report carried that “Sherlock” Season 5 suffered a delay because the cast and crew were swamped with work. However, in a recent interview, Collider, Martin Freeman was prodded about the speculations. Rubbishing rumors of a potential cancellation, Freeman reiterated that it’s not just him, but Benedict Cumberbatch, Steven Moffat, and Mark Gattis are all super busy with other projects. And, given the show’s repute and fan following, none of the actors would want to risk it by dishing out a subpar season. Freeman plays the role of Dr. Joh Watson in the series inspired by Sherlock Holmes’ detective stories.

"They're few and far between, the discussions about Sherlock, just because Mark [Gatiss] and Steven [Moffat], the writers, and Benedict [Cumberbatch] and I, are all lucky enough to be not only working on stuff that we like and are interested in, but we know what Sherlock is,” Martin Freeman said when asked about “Sherlock” Season 5. “You don't look that gift horse in the mouth cause that sort of stuff doesn't happen very often, in someone's life. It's a huge, huge, worldwide hit, and way beyond anything we could've imagined,” he added.

"Sherlock" Season 5 will, reportedly, feature the altered lives of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman's popular characters, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, respectively, as revealed by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss. What’s more, it has been said that both the actors would be seen delving deep into the cases and fighting criminals.

Furthermore, Benedict Cumberbatch, the lead actor, previously quashed “Sherlock” Season 5 cancelation rumors and pacified the fans of the show. “Nobody has ever closed the door on Sherlock,” he said.

The fascination around the series continues, nevertheless. Some speculate that the plot of “Sherlock” Season 5 would focus on the protagonist Benedict Cumberbatch and his long-lost sister Eurus (Sian Brooke). The series promises to show an evil side to her.

But, that’s not all. Credible sources have conjured up a real good reason as to why “Sherlock” Season 5 wouldn’t be stalled. Just for the record, "The Walking Dead" actress Eleanor Matsuura was introduced in Season 4's premiere episode titled “The Six Thatchers."

Matsuura played the role of Stella Hopkins, a detective inspector. The viewers watched her get on a video call with the protagonist Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch). Stella paid a visit to Baker Street apartment and has sent an assurance to help Sherlock. But she disappeared soon after, which resulted in the emptiness in the plot. That said, viewers are expecting the upcoming series to open doors for her character.

Stay tuned for more updates about the yet-to-be-confirmed “Sherlock” Season 5.
