Almost two weeks before the first anniversary of her death, the crypt of legendary Mexican actress Silvia Pinal has been vandalized.
Her assistant Efigenia Ramos confirmed the reports, and journalist Ernesto Buitrón shared photos of the damaged grave on social media.
The crypt located at the Panteón Jardín cemetery in Mexico City was entered by unknown individuals who caused damage and reportedly removed unspecified objects. Ramos confirmed the incident and said she possesses photographic evidence of the act. She stated, "They vandalized the crypt. They entered to do damage to the crypt. I have photos of how they vandalized it. It's been fixed again..."
Buitron's post reads "😢⚰️Pain and impotence! 😱This is how 'The diva of Mexican cinema' Silvia Pinal's grave was left after being V4ND4LIZED a few days ago💔."
Ramos noted that the crypt is supposedly well-guarded and maintained, yet the attack still occurred. Further reports say this was not an isolated incident, as Ramos claimed that other tombs on the same street at the cemetery also suffered similar damage.
The Panteón Jardín cemetery is a noted resting place in Mexico City for artists and prominent cultural figures from the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. The site has seen heightened attention since the star's death, owing to her influential career spanning film, theater, and television.
In October 2025, before these latest reports, images circulated showing the crypt in a state of neglect, overgrown with weeds, and lacking fresh flower arrangements, prompting public criticism about the family's oversight. While no official statement from the Pinal family has been published regarding the vandalism, Efigenia Ramos is organizing a memorial tribute for the first anniversary of Silvia Pinal's passing, which will reportedly include a mass and three opera singers to honor her legacy.
The iconic movie star was born on September 12, 1931, in Sonora, Mexico, and passed away on November 28th of last year at the age of 93 after being hospitalized for a urinary tract infection. She left behind four children, including singer Alejandra Guzmán, and her granddaughters, Frida Sofía and Stephanie Salas, as well as her great-granddaughter, Camila Valero, who were part of what is considered the Pinal Dynasty of entertainers.
Her funeral was just as extravagant as her life, as just three hours after her death, her body was transported in an elegant funeral carriage that had carried other Mexican icons from Médica Sur Hospital to the J. García López funeral home in Pedregal, located in San Jerónimo, Mexico City.
