Miles Morales will swing on screens and is reportedly in good hands.

Sony Pictures Animation recruited three powerhouse directors to oversee the highly awaited sequel to the animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse on Oct. 7, 2022.

Those who will direct the Oscar-winning animation are Oscar-nominated animation “Soul” co-director Kemp Powers, “The Legend of Korra” director Joaquim Dos Santos, and Spider-Verse production designer Justin K. Thompson.

The sequel will be Dos Santos and Thompson’s feature directorial debuts.

Sony also tapped producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller of The LEGO Movie, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, Christina Steinberg, and co-producer Alonzo Ruvalcaba.

For the animated film’s executive producers, Peter Ramsey, who directed the first Spider-Verse installment will handle the reins, and so are Persichetti and Rodney Rothman.

They will be joined by Aditya Sood of Deadpool 1 and 2, and David Callaham of Shang-Chi, and The Legend of the Ten Rings.

In a joint statement to Variety, the directors said, “The crew behind the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse set such a ridiculously high bar, and we’re humbled to take on the challenge of charting the next chapter in the story of Miles Morales.”

The film was praised by critics for the animation and visuals presented in the story. Sony Animations materialized the unique style of the film, by conjoining traditional hand-drawn comic book works with computer animation.

It was positively received by audiences especially with the Black and Latino communities for its plot and emotional elements. For Sony Animation, it was the first movie to win the Oscar for best animated feature.

The sequel also teases for a feature of the main character in the Japanese Spider-Man television series, Takuya Yamashiro.

The animated film started production in June 2020. It was originally planned to be released in theatres on April 8, 2022, but was pushed back to Oct. 7, 2022, due to the pandemic.

Following the success of the Spider-Verse, a spin-off of female characters like Spider-Gwen, Jessica Drew, and Cindy Moon is in the works. There are also talks that Spider-Ham will get his own spin-off as well.

In 2019, Lord and Miller signed a five-year contract with Sony Pictures Television to create a series based on the Spider-Verse animated film.
