On Tuesday, Dec. 6, the reports of a 14-year-old with self-inflicted stab wounds on their arms were received by the Houston Police Department just before 8 p.m. local time. The incident took place in the neighborhood of River Oaks where Texas Senator Ted Cruz resides with his family which includes his wife, and their two daughters, 11-year-old Catherine and 14-year-old Caroline, said reports.

According to the authorities, the teen, who still remains unidentified, was taken to the hospital.

It is still unclear whether a member of the Cruz family was involved with the 911 call, said reports.

The Republican lawmaker's office said late Tuesday, that his daughter is OK and asked for privacy for the family after Houston police and fire personnel were called to his home.

In a statement to ABC affiliate KTRK-TV and other media outlets, Cruz's agents said, "This is a family matter and thankfully their daughter is okay."

“There were no serious injuries. The family requests the media respect their daughter’s privacy at this time,” Cruz’s office said.

Police officers were present outside Cruz’s home when KTRK arrived at the scene.

Houston Police were unavailable for comment on the incident when contacted by the media.

According to the media, Cruz is in Washington and it remains unclear if he will return to Texas following the incident.
