Police: Pace Of Idaho Murder Investigation Will Not Slow Down During Holidays Brevard County Sheriff’s Office

A teen boy reportedly tried to kill his mother with a frying pan and stabbed her with a pocket knife because she kept asking him to clean his room in Florida.

Officers were reportedly called to a Cocoa home at 1202 Japonica Lane in the early morning hours of Nov. 30 after they received a call from the mother of one of the suspect’s friends, saying her son told her that “Toby” killed his mother. When the officers responded to the scene, they found the victim Carol Gray, 69, lying on her back near the laundry room, gravely injured. She was covered in blood and had multiple stab wounds on her body, New York Post reported.

The woman was also suffering blunt force trauma to the face as well as to the back of her head and her nose was “almost completely detached” when police found her. The officers also found a “small black folding knife” and a frying pan with a broken handle “covered in blood” next to her.

After the gruesome discovery, when officers were requesting rescue to respond to the scene, the victim took a breath and stated "Toby did this.” Authorities identified “Toby” as Gray’s 17-year-old son Tobias “Toby” Brewer.

The officers eventually tracked Brewer's location through his cell phone. Brewer led police on a high-speed chase through several communities. However, he was finally arrested and taken into custody after he crashed his car into a wooded area where he and his girlfriend both tried to flee on foot, Law & Crime reported.

When questioned by the investigating officers, Brewer confessed everything.

“During a sworn audio and video recorded post Miranda interview with the suspect, he admitted to stabbing the victim multiple times with a pocket knife that he carries around,” an arrest warrant affidavit said.

“He also advised that he struck the victim in the head until the handle of the frying pan broke, at which time he pulled out his pocket knife and began stabbing her repeatedly.”

Brewer told the officers that he was upset because his mother was constantly telling him to clean his room. He added that he attacked her because he “does not like cleaning his room” and was “tired” of his mother “constantly harping about it.”

Brewer told detectives that after attacking his mother, he then took both of his mom’s car keys and took money out of her purse “so that he can have money once he left the area.” He also admitted to texting a friend to bring a gun to “shoot the victim.”

Brewer’s case has been transferred to adult court. Following his arrest, he has been charged with attempted murder, criminal conspiracy to commit a capital felony, fleeing with disregard of safety to persons or property, and grand theft of a motor vehicle.

Brewer is currently in custody on a $17,000 bond and his next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 11, 2023.

Meanwhile, Gray was airlifted to a medical center and was listed in stable condition.
