A week before being fatally murdered, Wendy Duan, a Texas elementary school teacher had apparently met her alleged attacker on a dating app. She was discovered dead in her backyard.

Charvas Thompson, 28, Wendy Duan's boyfriend, was detained on Wednesday in Louisiana, more than 260 miles from the scene of the alleged shooting in her Sugar Land backyard last week. Her remains were discovered on Saturday, Jan .7. After hearing gunshots, neighbors alerted the police, who arrived on the site. She had multiple gunshot wounds, the police found.

The two had only been dating for a week before Thompson took Duan’s life, the victim’s mother, who did want to be identified, told KHOU 11.
Duan's mother claimed that Thompson gave her a terrible vibe and that she had advised her daughter against meeting someone online.

They had met on the 'MeetMe' dating app.

"She showed me the picture," Duan's mother said. "I don’t know his name. She just saying, 'Do you like him?' I said no." Duan's mother had a strong intuition, but she never thought her daughter would die.
"It’s unbelievable," she said.

Duan's mother said, "The guy is very evil. He took her life away. I hope this guy gets the full legal punishment."

Duan was a beloved Alief ISD teacher who taught third grade at Boone elementary. She was named "Teacher of the Year" in December 2021.

According to her mother, she was a giver who had a soft spot for her students.

"Every Thursday she asks me to go to dollar store to buy gifts for kids," she said.

Thompson, as per Duan's mother, mistook her daughter's generosity for frailty. She's hoping he remains behind bars.

"The guy is very evil," she said. " He took her life away. I hope this guy gets the full legal punishment."

A neighbor states, " Out of nowhere, just four very distinct gunshots is what I heard, and it was quite scary at the moment, so I dropped everything I was doing and came outside."

Thompson is in custody in Louisiana. He is currently in the process of being returned to Texas for trial in Fort Bend County. His $500,000 bond is still in effect.

There are still many unknown factors regarding Wendy Duan's untimely demise, according to the authorities. The situation is presently being looked into.
