Soda Stereo front man Gustavo Cerati has died. The Latin rock icon died from respitory arrest following four years in a coma. The 55-year-old Argentine singer suffered a stroke in Caracas, Venezuela in 2010 and has been on a ventilator ever since. His son Benito Cerati confirmed the news. He is survived by two children: Benito, of 21 years, also a musician, and Lisa, 18.

Cerati was born on the 11th of August in 1959 in Buenos Aires, Argentina into a family of Italian, Irish and English background. From an early age Cerati showed an interest in music. He is primarily known as the lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist of the group Soda Stereo and is considered one of the most important and influential band of Latin rock. Cerati has also achieved recognition and success as a solo artist.
