The tornado, categorized EF5, the most powerful ranking, tore through Moore, Oklahoma killing 24 people and injuring more than 400 others. Around 1,200 homes were destroyed and 12,000 were damaged, and among those, was the home of the family in question. The parents sent their 5 and 2-year old to Little Rock, Arkansas to live with family friends until they finished rebuilding their home.

On Saturday afternoon, the young boy was throwing a temper tantrum over putting on his shoes. As Lynn Geiling, the owner of the house, was trying to calm him down, her Bullmastiff came in from another room and attacked the boy.

Geiling tried to separate the two and called in her husband to help. He drove the boy to the hospital, but the kid was pronounced dead immediately. "The child was putting on some shoes and was crying and upset," said Garland County Deputy Scott Hinojosa. "The dog possibly took that as being aggressive and at that time the child was attacked." The dog ran away after the attack, but was shot by a local resident on Monday.

Authorities are still investigating the tragedy so it is not known if the dog owners will face charges. The name of the victim has not been released.
