A 23-year-old man allegedly opened fire on his twin brother, his father, and their family dog before shooting himself to death in a tragic post-Christmas murder-suicide on Monday, Dec. 27.

On Monday, Dec. 27, at around 12:23 a.m, Troy police received a disturbance call from a home on Lark Drive. The caller identified himself as a 62-year-old man and told the officers that he had been shot by his 23-year-old son. Around the same time, the officers received another call from a resident reporting to them that a vehicle had crashed into a tree on Parrot Drive near Edgemont Drive.

After law enforcement rushed to the home on Lark Drive, they found a 23-year-old man shot and killed in the basement, as well as a 62-year-old man upstairs, seriously injured from gunshot wounds. The officers also found a 64-year-old woman at the home. However, the woman was unhurt, FOX 2 Detroit reported.

The medics immediately transported the 62-year-old man to a nearby hospital by Alliance Mobile Health for treatment. The man, whose condition was critical at the time of admission, is undergoing treatment and is now in stable condition.

Meanwhile, officers discovered that the car that had crashed into a tree on Parrot Drive was registered to the Lark Drive address where the shootings happened.

The officers found a 23-year-old man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the crashed vehicle. The man was found to be the twin brother of the deceased man found inside the Lark Drive home.

Officers believe that he fatally shot his twin brother in the basement of their home and shot his father upstairs before leaving the residence. He is then believed to have shot himself while driving, causing the vehicle to crash into a tree near the family home, according to The Detroit News.

Officers also found a handgun inside the car. They believe that it was used by the 23-year-old driver to shoot his twin brother, his father, their family dog, and himself.

"It's brutal," said Troy Police Captain Josh Jones. "It’s a devastating incident for the community, obviously for that family."

The officers are investigating the case as a murder-suicide and added that everyone involved in the incident is cooperating with the investigation.
