Following the bombshell news that they are taking a step back from their roles in the royal family, Meghan Markle has flown back to Canada to be with his son, Archie Harrison, leaving Prince Harry facing the wrath of Queen Elizabeth single-handedly in the UK. Prince Harry and Meghan had stayed in London for three days this week before they sensationally announced their withdrawal from the royal family on Wednesday.

In an Instagram post, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their plan to split their time between the U.K. and North America and be financially independent as they focus on the “next chapter” of their lives. In the wake of their shocking announcement, there have been speculations as to what might be going on behind the scenes at Buckingham Palace.

With Meghan Markle wanting to break free from all the hullaballoos, Prince Harry is now alone in the U.K. to deal with the fallout over the abdication crisis. On Thursday, Meghan returned to North America to be with their son Archie and stay there for the foreseeable future. Meghan’s departure reportedly came as Queen Elizabeth ordered the rest of the royal family to hammer out a solution that would allow Prince Harry and his wife to quit frontline royal duties.

An insider has revealed that soon after Prince Harry and Meghan’s announcement, a furious monarch convened a series of calls between herself at Sandringham, Prince Charles at Birkhall, Prince William at Kensington Palace, and Prince Harry—without Meghan—at Frogmore Cottage, to come up with a workable solution to the crisis.

According to a source, Prince Harry and Meghan defied Queen Elizabeth when they released their official announcement on Wednesday. While the Queen has always been aware of their struggles and has always been concerned about their wellbeing and happiness, she was reportedly devastated about the couple’s decision to distance themselves from the royal family and even more so, to make their decision public without her consent.

“Nothing had been signed off, nothing had been decided upon, and the idea was that it was going to be developed, talked about, a strategy would be worked out and then an announcement would be made, but the Sussexes appear to have completely jumped the gun here by announcing this statement on their Instagram page and essentially on their own terms,” said the source.

This has reportedly led to a sense of betrayal at the palace and a sense of fury on Queen Elizabeth’s part. “What’s understood is the Queen had personally asked Harry not to make any of this public until it had been agreed, signed off, and properly discussed,” the source added.

Following Prince Harry and Meghan’s announcement on Wednesday, Queen Elizabeth acknowledged in a statement that there would be “complicated issues” that would take time to work through with regard to the couple’s decision.
