Mexican actor Alfonso Herrera has just been chosen as the male lead for the upcoming Fox pilot “Urban Cowboy.” The series will be a new adaptation of the 1980 film will be directed Greg Brewer, who also directed titles like “Hustle & Flow” and “Footloose.” The show will follow the story of two dancers, Kyle and Gaby who perform at honky tonks and have fallen for each other. Herrera’s character, Kyle, is played by Travolta in the film, but will be Mexican in the series.

Herrera has had a busy year and is slowly leaving his telenovela past behind after starring in the movie “The Perfect Dictatorship”, he stars in the new Netflix series “Sense8” and will also appear in Antonio Chavarrias’ “The Chosen” which was shot partly in Mexico and follows the story of Trotsky’s assassin. The project is coming from comes from Paramount TV and 20th Century Fox TV and might even have a mid-season debut.
