On Monday July 27, the media published the incident that caused the firing of Miguel “El Piojo” Herrera. David Medrano, a TV Azteca sports newscaster, brought the event to the public eye with the following Tweet: “What a shame. At the Philadelphia airport, Mexico’s head coach Miguel Herrera hit Christian Martinoli TV Azteca’s chronicler.”
Lamentable. En el Aeropuerto de Filadelfia el técnico mexicano Miguel Herrera golpeó a Christian Martinoli cronistq de TV Azteca.

The media later revealed that Herrera’s daughter also got involved in the argument and slapped former soccer player Luis García, who was at the airport with Martinoli. TDN reported that Herrera, allegedly, only got close to Martinoli to make him stop talking about his family, situation that had been going on for a while on social media. After much consideration, Directives of the Mexican Football Federation announced Miguel Herrera was no longer going to act as coach to “El Tri.”

Not many have disagreed with that decision, especially after the constant criticism Herrera’s technique received during the Gold Cup 2015. Many left aside the fact that the media was making fun of Herrera and family before, and during the event.
Vanessa Huppenkothen, who was attempting to keep away from the situation, finally expressed her “humble opinion” on the subject via social media. The TV host explained that she is not approving of Herrera’s actions but he wasn’t being judged on his coaching and performance on the field. Regarding Martinoli’s comments, she said that everyone is entitled to freedom of speech but we have to do so responsibly.
