NBC's The Voice returns tonight at 8 pm.

Last night's show was a Knockout on "The Voice," the Knockout shows will instantly eliminate half of the remaining 32 contestant leaving four contestants on each team to then compete in the live shows for viewers votes beginning next week. Last night's teams to perform in the Knockouts were contestants on Team Adam and Team Shakira.

The Knockouts consisted of coaches pairing up contestants, then coaching them individually on a song of the singers own choice, and then after watching the contestants both perform, immediately knocking out one of them from the competition.

Coach Adam Levine paired folk-duo Midas Whale with Amber Carrington. Midas Whale performed an original version of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" and Amber performed Avril Lavigne's "I'm With You," which she performed with passion following her mother's recent death from breast cancer. Following to very contrasting performances, Adam decided to knockout Midas Whale, and put Amber through to the live shows stating that she had a good shot of winning.

As for team Shakira, Garrett Gardner was grouped with Tawyna Reynolds because Shakira believed they were "two of the most unique voices" on her team. Gardner is a "Voice" veteran and decided to sing Alex Clare's "Too Close." Whereas Reynolds contrastingly chose Pistol Annies' "Hell on Heels". In this Knockout it seemed to me that Gardner was the clear winner possessing what Shakira considered star potential, Gardner did indeed win the match.

In the next round of Knockout's for Team Adam, Amy Whitcomb was matched with Caroline Glaser -- Glaser was stolen from Team Blake during the Battle Rounds -- Glaser sang "Little Talks" by Of Monsters and Men and Whitcomb sang a classic folk ballad, "The House of the Rising Sun." While Coach Adam believed that both of the performances were better in rehearsals, he decided to knock out Whitcomb and put Glaser through to the live shows.

Back to Team Shakira, Kris Thomas was paired against Mary Miranda. Thomas sang a sweet rendition of Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World". Miranda decided to sing "Every Breath You Take" by the Police, while Shakira believed that Miranda looked like a doll, her performance wasn't as strong as Thomas' and she was knocked out.

Adam then put Judith Hill against Orlando Dixon, who he stole from Team Usher. Hill sang an emotional rendition of Willie Nelson's "Always on My Mind," whereas Dixon sang K-Ci and JoJo's "All My Life." With Hill being the favorite to win the entire competition, it was no surprise that Dixon was knocked out even though he delivered a fantastic performance.

Shakira pitted Karin Iglesias against Monique Abbadie; Shakira termed the two ladies "powerhouse Latinas." Iglesias delivered an edgy performance of Lenny Kravitz's "Are You Gonna Go My Way," while Abbadie crooned Celine Dion's "The Power of Love." After splitting the judges, Shakira knocked out Abbadie.

In Team Adam's final Knockout, Warren Stone sang against Sarah Simmons. Stone delivered his best performance thus far singing Cutting Crew's "Died in Your Arms Tonight." Simmons brought the Knockout battle to the next level when she sang, "Wild Horses." This Knockout was a tough one, but in the end Adam chose to put Simmons further in the completion.

And last, but not least for Team Shakira was Sasha Allen and Shawna P. Shawna sang a sweet version of Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed" and Sasha gave a beautiful performance of "At Last," Shakira said that she got goosebumps twice during the performance and decided to move her forward in the competition.

For tonight's Knockout episode, Team Blake and Team Usher will face off against each other.
