The 2014 FIFA World Cup will celebrate its grand opening ceremony today in Brazil, and in addition to celebrating the start of the tournament, Comcast recently made an announcement that will excite all soccer fans, even if you can’t make it to Rio de Janiero! Comcast stated that the network will make every 2014 FIFA World Cup game available in Spanish through the company’s latest On Demand innovation, Instant On Demand. Instant On Demand is available via Xfinity TV and will provide, for the first time ever, Spanish-speaking viewers the ability to watch all 64 World Cup games in their native language. Here’s how it works, viewers will gain access to the game’s broadcast in Spanish immediately after the live broadcast begins and throughout the entire tournament exclusively via Xfinity On Demand channel. So while it is technically “On Demand” Spanish-speaking viewers won’t have to miss out on any of the World Cup’s exciting action.

In addition to the ability to view the games in Spanish, Comcast is offering a variety of different programs all centered upon the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Xfinity On Demand will feature approximately 300 hours, or more than 350 unique pieces of World Cup-related programming, such as replays of every match in Spanish and English, the opening ceremony which will be broadcast today as it takes place in the Arena Corinthians in São Paulo, as well as the closing ceremony, which is rumored to be spectacular, involving a performance by 73-year tenor, Plácido Domingo, who announced that he will be performing in the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro on July 11.

In addition to the opening and closing ceremonies, over 200 of the On Demand choices Comcast is offering will be streamed in Spanish which include special features and team biographies from partner networks mainly, beIN Sports, Fox Deportes and Telemundo. These special World Cup series and in-depth looks will be accompanied by 16 soccer-themed films and documentaries from Cine Sony Television, ViendoMovies, FOX Life, Discovery en Español, NUVOtv, and Cinelatino.

“The World Cup is an opportunity to provide Xfinity TV customers, particularly our Latino and multicultural subscribers with a comprehensive mix of content across multiple platforms and in multiple languages,” said Marcien Jenckes, Executive Vice President, Consumer Services, Comcast Cable. “The World Cup is already the most watched and anticipated event in the world in any language, and we are proud to be able to deliver to our customers not only the culturally relevant content they want most, but also exclusive access to innovations, like Instant On Demand, and even more ways than ever to experience the 2014 World Cup anytime, anywhere and on any device.”
