Tonight a new game show debuts on NBC, hosted by Ryan Seacrest titled "The Million Second Quiz." The show is one of its kind and it is a format that is extremely ambitious and could make history if the audience connects with it. MSQ is a hybrid of a quiz show and a reality show, where contestants smarts are put to the test 24 hours a day for 10 consecutive days. Here are 5 things to know about "The Million Second Quiz": (1) The audience at home will be able to take part in the action. In previous game shows we were used to shouting at our television screens at how it was possible for a player to get an answer wrong to such a simple question and we wished we were in their place banking on that money. Well, that wish has just become a reality because you will be able to follow the game show with an app for iOS or Android devices for a chance to become a "Line Jumper" and be flown to New York City to become a contestant.
“From the beginning of the process and concept of the show, social was to be a core component,” Robert Hayes, NBC Digital VP said. “Many discussions were about how the show needed to live beyond the hourlong primetime broadcast and to live 24/7…With mobile growing significantly over the past few years and twitter being one of the largest platforms for entertainment conversations, it was a no-brainer to leverage that platform as one of the digital tent poles for engagement.”
(2) You Can Spy On The Show 24/7
MSQ will air nightly for 10 consecutive days around the clock. With the same mobile app, the public will be able to spy on the game show 24 hours a day. A live feed has been integrated into the app so you can catch the action even when it's not being broadcasted on television.
(3) Winners Row Is Where You Want To Be
Contestants have a chance to go into "Winners Row" where they will be able to eat, sleep and catch up on the days' news, as questions will be generated every day, taking into account current topics of the day. Only four players are able to live in "Winners Row" and whomever is left there on the final night will vie for a grand prize close to $5 million.
(4) Money Chair Earns Players $10 A Second
Wouldn't it be amazing to earn $10 a second for answering general trivia correctly? The MSQ lets contestants do that. The more answers they accrue accurately, the higher the possibility they have to go into Winner's Row. The Money Chair is where to opponents face each other, the more time they spend in the chair, the more money is added until they are defeated by a challenger. Depending on how long you are in the Money Chair, that will determine if you have a spot in Winners Row or get displaced.
(5) 25,000 Questions Written Before Show
Over 25,000 questions have been written before the show even starts, but more questions will be developed depending on the day's news. Celebrities will also come in to the hourglass and ask contestants questions.
"The Million Second Quiz" starts ticking tonight at 8pm ET/PT on NBC. Will you be watching?
