Kate Middleton was recently accused of breaking protocol after she showed off her slim legs at the charity regatta earlier this month. During her outing with Prince William, the mom of three wore navy blue shorts.

One publication claimed that the Duchess of Cambridge broke protocol for showing off too much skin during her competition against Prince William. One of the reasons has to do with the fact that Kate has never worn shorts at the same event in previous years.

During the other times that she participated at the charity regatta, Kate was photographed either in her leggings or jeans. But this year’s competition took place in the summer, which means that it could’ve been quite hot that day.

And the fact of the matter is, Prince William’s wife didn’t really break any royal protocol. Kate competed at an outdoor event, and she simply wore her outdoor gear. The charity regatta is also quite physical, so it’s not surprising that Kate opted to wear shorts.

Royal fans are simply surprised to see Prince George’s mom in her casual attire because she has not been photographed wearing shorts ever since she wed Prince William in 2011. She was seen wearing shorts in 2008, before she was married to Prince William.

It would have been a breach of protocol if Kate wore shorts to her royal engagements and to formal events, which the future queen hasn’t done. During these occasions, the Duchess of Cambridge is photographed in beautiful dresses that usually highlights her slender frame.

And whenever she’s on a royal tour with Prince William, Kate usually wears pieces of clothing that feature the national colors of the country she’s visiting. Female members of the royal family are also required to wear skin-colored tights or stockings while wearing a dress.

Royal expert Victoria Arbiter previously said that wearing tights is the only strict rule that Queen Elizabeth II expects all female members of the royal family to abide by. Based on what Arbiter said, it can be surmised that Kate didn’t break any protocols because there’s no strict rule about wearing shorts while engaging in physical activities.
