Meghan Markle did not include Queen Elizabeth on the September issue of the British Vogue. Markle is the guest editor for the issue and has handpicked a total of 15 female trailblazers for the cover but not the Queen. Why?

Some speculate it could be because Markle never felt liked by the Queen and this could be payback. But that sounds quite unbelievably petty for the royal and even doubtful because the rift between the two has never been proven.

British Vogue’s “Forces of Change” issue will be tackling some of the heaviest topics that need to be discussed today for women, including handling mental health, prioritizing self-care and love, and striving to be a strong woman. This is why its guest editor may be considered one of the strongest women today as well — The Duchess of Sussex.

Even though she declined to be part of the cover, 15 fantastic women in their respective fields who are being “forces of change” themselves, will be. Included in the lineup are Jane Fonda, Laverne Cox, and Salma Hayek. There are also those outside the Entertainment industry of course, such as climate activist Greta Thunberg, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, and youth activist, Yara Shahidi.

While these names deserve to be chosen as part of the cover, many are not happy, noting that there were some strong women left out, such as Queen Elizabeth herself. One would think if Markle would compile a list of names, she’d think of family first, especially one that has a lot of achievements on her belt.

One dissatisfied Twitter user asked, “Why isn’t HM The Queen included on the cover of September’s Vogue, @RoyalFamily? Her Majesty is the perfect role model: like many of us she had no choice but to do the job she was given. The ultimate in grace & discretion for 70+ years.”

Another asked the same question, but also raised the problem of not seeing enough doctors, scientists, and teachers among the 15 handpicked by the royal mother of one. For her, the cover is "pathetic."

For her part, Markle’s choices were not shabby at all, as these are truly amazing females. The selection is said to be diverse, who had done so much in the name of “equality, kindness, justice, and open-mindedness,” as the British Vogue magazine wrote on its IG post.

Some could not help but speculate that Markle did not choose the Queen because she often felt criticized by the monarch. Moreover, there was a perception that the Queen could have even found Markle’s involvement in this magazine issue “idiotic.” Of course, this opinion was given by a loud critic of Markle, Dan Wooton of the Sun, so it might not be the Queen’s opinion but his. He said so himself.

In his interview on ITV’s Lorraine, Wootton shared, “The Queen will think this is an absolutely idiotic ridiculous decision, as do I.”

No one knows for sure why the Queen is not on the cover, or if Markle even thought of putting her mother-in-law on the cover. Nonetheless, even without Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, British Vogue's September issue will still be packed with strong, admirable women.
