Prince Charles once declared that he’s not stupid during one of his outbursts. At that time, Queen Elizabeth II’s successor was talking about his future role as king.

Royal correspondent Rhiannon Mills said she and the other royal experts have always wanted to ask Prince Charles if he would be a meddling king. This is because he has always been vocal about his stand on politics, which is something that members of the royal family are not supposed to do.

While speaking with Sky News, Mills said that after being asked if he’ll be a meddling king, Prince Charles gave an answer that surprised everyone. He told the interviewer that he knows that he will have an entirely different role when he’s crowned as king.

The dad of two was previously criticized for his so-called black spider letters, which he wrote to ministers on a number of issues over the years. Prince Charles also wrote to former Prime Minister Tony Blair to protest against the ill-equipped British troops fighting in Iraq, among several other things.

“The problem all along, though, is how Prince Charles views his interfering,” Mills said. “He believes that when he is writing letters to MPs and politicians on a whole range of issues, whether it’s the health service, it’s the military or the Patagonian toothfish, he has always believed he was being helpful,” she added.

However, critics have called Prince Charles’ efforts as political lobbying. Mills also said that one of the reasons why Queen Elizabeth II has been successful as a monarch is because she has always stayed politically neutral.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles is not the only member of the British clan to have shared his views about politics and other controversial issues. Earlier this year, Meghan Markle was criticized by royal expert Ingrid Seward over her comments on feminism and female empowerment.

While speaking with Yahoo’s “The Royal Box,” Seward said that she doesn’t think the royal family is ready for feminist comments at all. She also said that some old-fashioned courtiers tend to recoil whenever they hear Meghan’s comments. She also said that the royal family doesn’t normally talk about politics because they don’t want to be criticized.
