A royal expert explained why Queen Elizabeth didn’t grant Prince Harry’s desire to move in with her and his wife, Meghan Markle, at Windsor Castle after their wedding. According to Hugo Vickers, the royal palace doesn’t have a place for a young family like Prince Harry and Meghan’s, hence Queen Elizabeth’s decision not to grant his wish.

Recently, a report revealed that Prince Harry and Meghan had “set their hearts” on the royal castle after they tied the knot in 2017, but Queen Elizabeth didn’t cave in. The Queen’s rejection came as a surprise for many, especially since the Windsor Castle has a lot of empty bedrooms and suites that could accommodate the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

“There are empty bedrooms and suites in the private apartments which the Sussexes may have had their eye on, or perhaps some former living quarters in the castle grounds converted into other things,” said Vickers. “But I can see how it might not be entirely appropriate to have a young family living here,” he added.

According to Vickers, Prince Harry and Meghan have always wanted to live at Windsor Castle with Queen Elizabeth because the castle holds a very special place in their hearts. Kensington Palace revealed this in a statement ahead of their royal wedding, saying that Prince Harry and Meghan had regularly spent their time there over the last year and a half.

“Meghan and Harry have lived there some of the most important events of their lives as a couple,” the statement read.

While Vickers maintained that Queen Elizabeth’s decision was entirely because it would be inappropriate to have a young family live at Windsor with her, critics of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex believe otherwise. “I doubt the Queen would want this odious pair and their shenanigans anywhere near her,” one critic said.

“Besides, they had no right even to ask in the first place. HM (Her Majesty) was simply reminding them of their place in the grand scheme of things!” the critic added.

After Queen Elizabeth’s refusal, Prince Harry and Meghan decided to live in Frogmore Cottage, another home in Windsor that is separate from the Windsor Castle, where the Queen resides. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to the cottage ahead of Archie Harrison’s birth.
