A 35-year-old ward boy working at a hospital in Panvel in Maharshtra, India allegedly killed his girlfriend by injecting five drugs including an overdose of anaesthesia. He was held on Sunday.

The police said that Chandrakant Vithal Gaikar, a resident of Turmale village in Panvel, had planned to murder his 40-year-old girlfriend, who showed interest in marrying him, reported The Hindu.

The two had met for the first time at the hospital where she went to get treatment for her fractured leg caused during an accident. This was about six months ago. She developed a relationship with Gaikar as she continued to visit the hospital.

The police suspects that the victim was unaware of the accused being married to someone else. He also has two children.

During the treatment, the woman developed an infection. After a test was done, it was found that she had a medical condition which was untreatable.

Senior police inspector Ajay Landge from Panvel City police station said, “The accused claimed that the woman had started pestering him for marriage and to get rid of her, he decided to kill her on the pretext of treating her of the ailment.”

Gaikar took the woman to a place in Panvel on Friday and administered her five injections. “The accused was well aware of what medicine could kill her and accordingly planned the murder,” police sub-inspector Sunil Tarmale from Panvel City police station said.

After murdering her, he left with all her items which he later threw away on the outskirts of Turmale village. Her body was found by locals on Saturday and on the same day, the woman's brother went to the the police to register a missing person’s complaint.

Prior to the incident, the victim and the accused apparently engaged in a heated argument.

"The woman's brother told us she and a ward boy, with whom she was in a relationship, had a heated argument on phone some days ago. The ward boy has confessed he killed the woman as she had some serious ailment but was still insistent on getting married to him," said a Panvel city police station official, reported Mid-Day.

The accused faced court on Monday. He will remain in police custody till June 6.
