A woman in Illinois is accused of pouring a pot of boiling water on her sleeping boyfriend and then posted her vile act on social media on January 2. Alexis Sykes, 22, who shares an apartment in Roselle, Illinois with her boyfriend was arrested on January 19 in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi.

According to the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office, Sykes’ boyfriend was sleeping on the couch when Sykes took video footage of her as she scalded her boyfriend. Instead of helping him, she posted the video on Snapchat and captioned it with :

“I kinda feel bad now because he got 2 and 3rd degree Burns from face to waist & they rushin him to burn center but oh well (shrugging shoulder emoji) B—H (emoji blowing kiss) n still cried & beg me to drive him to hospital,”

She has also been accused of hiding her boyfriend’s car keys while she watched his skin fall off his arms.

The boyfriend managed to find his keys and drove himself to a hospital and was transferred to Loyola University Medical Center Burn Unit. His injuries required skin graft surgery and was hospitalized for about two weeks, KIRO 7 News reported.

In a story published on ABC7 Chicago, prosecutors were unable to provide a motive behind the incident but have extradited Sykes back to Illinois to face charges on two counts of aggravated battery by caustic substance and two counts of aggravated domestic battery. If convicted, Sykes faces between six to 30 years in prison.

DuPage County state attorney Robert Berlin said:

“The charges against Ms. Sykes are very disturbing. Dousing a sleeping man with boiling water causing serious, painful injury, as alleged in this case, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Sykes is being held on a $500,000 bond and her next court appearance is in March.
