A 25-year-old woman from South Africa was raped at gunpoint by a taxi driver and its conductor, both unaware that she was positive for HIV. According to the victim, she was scared to tell the attackers of her status because she feared her life.

According to reports, the victim had flagged down a motorist at about 3:00 p.m. at the northbound lane of N2 near Sibaya Casino on Monday. It was here where the Reaction Unit SA (RUSA) was called to the scene.

Upon arrival, members of the RUSA team found the 25-year-old girl by the emergency lane. She revealed that she ran a stall at Durban.

RUSA spokesperson Prem Balram revealed the series of events that led to the rape. The female victim boarded the taxi at the Moses Mabhida Stadium and was bound to KwaDukuza to visit her boyfriend. However, she noticed after getting on the vehicle that there were no other passengers present. She asked the driver and the conductor and it was here where the real motive of the two men was revealed.

At this point, the conductor gagged her with a cloth and told her to keep quiet. She was brought to a cane field after which the two attackers took turns sexually attacking her at gunpoint. They drove off after raping the 25-year-old woman. The case is now being handled by the Verulam police station.

But the attackers may now be in a bigger mess following a revelation that the woman had HIV. She opted not to inform her attackers since both could end up killing her.

"It is alleged by the complainant that [on Monday] at 2:30pm she stopped a taxi near the Moses Mabhida Stadium as she was going to KwaDukuza. While the taxi was on the N2 Sibaya turn off‚ the conductor covered her mouth while [the driver] pointed a firearm at her. The victim was then raped by the suspects before they left her on the side of the road‚” Police spokesperson Capt Nqobile Gwala stated.
