Germany Celebrates

The World Cup trophy has been damaged, according to the German Football Federation (DFB), following the intense celebrations of the German national team. President Wolfgang Niersbach confirmed the news, revealing "a small piece was chipped off during the celebrations. But don’t worry. We have specialists who can repair this.” He added: “We have investigated the incident thoroughly but we did not get a result from that investigation.”

"We have thoroughly investigated, but we could not figure out who the guilty person was," Niersbach added. The DFB believe a player dropped the trophy, but has decided to close the case. It is important to note that the original trophy is still in the possession of the FIFA, which, following Germany's victory lap at Maracana, have guarded it safely away. The German team has been celebrating with a 6 kilo replica.

It should also be remembered that it is not the first time that a major trophy has been damaged. In 2002, the then Schalke manager Rudi Assauer dropped the Champions Cup from a bus! Germany have had quite the celebratory week following their 1-0 victory over Argentina in Rio de Janeiro. Singer Rihanna even got in on the celebrations, posting a selfie with match-winning goal scorer Mario Göetze.
