With the Uvalde, Texas elementary school shooting still fresh in the minds of most, are still on guard and more attentive to unusual behavior – including students.

In a possible effort to curb any similar mishap, police are treating any form of threat seriously. This includes a text message from students that implicate such.

An example is that of a fifth-grade student who was reportedly arrested by Lee County sheriffs. In a report, a 10-year-old student from Patriot Elementary School was taken in after police discovered a disturbing text message about a threat to pull off a mass shooting.

On Saturday, the student was handcuffed and taken into a police cruiser from the Cape Coral school. He allegedly wrote a writer threat.

“This student’s behavior is sickening, especially after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a statement. “Making sure our children are safe is paramount.”

The sheriff's office’s School Threat Enforcement Team was reportedly tipped off by the alarming messages. The Youth Services Criminal Investigations Division acted on the case because of the young suspect’s age.

“We will have law and order in our schools! My team didn’t hesitate one second…NOT ONE SECOND, to investigate this threat,” he said.

Police are taking any form seriously to prevent a similar incident at the Robb Elementary School. 19 students and 2 adults were killed in the shooting massacre instigated by 18-year-old Salvador Ramos.

Authorities have been criticized for their handling of the incident and it appears this is a new approach they are implementing. The identity of the 10-year-old has been withheld since he is still a minor.

“Right now is not the time to act like a little delinquent. It’s not funny. This child made a fake threat, and now he’s experiencing real consequences,” Marceno added.
