Understandably, some people would want to show off that they are allowed to carry firearms legally. However, the responsibility behind that is equally important. Unfortunately for a 22-year-old man, it resulted in the accidental shooting of a friend in the neck.

According to a statement from the Woburn Police Department, Alec Augustino Braz found himself in a serious situation when he allegedly discharged a piston and firing at his 19-year-old friend by mistake over in Massachusetts on Saturday at around 3:15 p.m. Braz had just gotten his license to carry a gun at the time.

The report adds that Braz is suspected of discharging the firearm within 500 feet of a building, improper storage of a firearm, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. It appears the 22-year-old was showing off his gun that afternoon before he accidentally pulled the trigger. The identity of the shooting victim was not revealed.

Seized from the 22-year-old was reportedly a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson pistol. As a result of the incident, Braz’s license was suspended by police chief Robert F Rufo Jr. ahead of his appearance at the Woburn District Court.

The 19-year-old reportedly survived the incident. However, the case raises concerns about the proper handling of guns. According to the Education Fund to Stop Gun Violence, misfiring guns in the United States has resulted in the loss of lives, approximately 500 deaths per year. 220 accidental shootings in 2020 before October, came from children discharging weapons which caused 92 of the 500 deaths per Aftermath. 77% of accidental shootings happen at home.

This report comes not long after a nine-year-old boy accidentally shot his two-year-old sister in the head in Mississippi. The boy found the gun under a seat after their mother left them in a vehicle.
