It's another pole for Marc Marquez, so we won't blame you for thinking it's another dull race. However, we're delighted to report that there's a big anomaly found on the grid-- Andrea Dovizioso's Ducati qualified second, just 0.225 behind Marquez. In fact, Ducati delivered a more powerful engine for the Indianapolis weekend, allowing Dovi to set the highest top speed of the session.

“To make that lap time under 1m 32 was really nice and sure to follow Marc - the crazy lines of Marc helped me to make that lap time!” said Andrea Dovizioso. “But every session we were really strong, almost always in the top five and I feel better than at the other tracks. We are faster, but especially with the new tyres. We have to see in the race if we are able to keep a good speed for the 27 laps.

“For us the tyre choice is easy because our hard tyre [the medium compound] is maybe too soft, so we have to use the harder tyre. Also the potential of the soft and [medium] tyres is very close at this track, so there is no positive point to use the soft.”

The formidable Yamaha duo are close to the front of the pack as well. Jorge Lorenzo is the last bike on the front row. According to the Spaniard, the qualifying time could actually have been even faster if it weren't for the other riders on the track. As for Valentino Rossi, a crucial setup change catapulted him from to fifth fastest during qualifying.

“I'm quite happy. It was possible to do a little better, especially because I was good this afternoon,” said Valentino Rossi. “During Free Practice 4 I was consistently fast, but starting from the top five is ok for the race. It would have been better to start from the first row, but it's also ok from the top five.

“I'm quite happy because I'm riding the bike well. I have a good pace and we improved the setting a lot, but the rear tyre choice will be crucial,” added Rossi. “The soft and hard options are very similar, so it will be a very important decision for tomorrow's race.

“For me the stronger guys are Marquez and also Lorenzo. But Marquez is a bit faster. But this is just Saturday. Maybe tomorrow we can improve. For me, we are not very far. But Marc, at the end, is always in front.”
