A group of four men has been accused of abducting a 60-year-old woman in her sleep, before gang-raping the victim and subsequently applying chili power on her genitals as they left her for dead in the bushes over an alleged land dispute.
The heinous crime reportedly happened in Kabrai village in Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh, India on Saturday, July 24. The four allegedly abducted the vulnerable woman while she was asleep alone in her home, and then took her to a deserted lot, where they took turns brutally assaulting the victim.
Following the ordeal, they reportedly cruelly applied chili powder on the woman's genitals, tied her hands and legs, and dumped her in the bushes of a remote lot, according to the Times of India.
Before fleeing the scene, the accused threatened the woman with dire consequences if she informed anyone about the assault. The elderly woman was reportedly found unconscious in the field by her family members on Sunday morning, July 25, and was rushed to the district hospital for immediate treatment.
When the police arrived to record her statement, she named her neighbors Sewa Lal and Bharat Kushwaha among the accused. She said that the duo had been constantly pressuring her to vacate her house prior to the abduction and attack. The two accused have been arrested and an investigation is underway to catch the other two suspects at large, Times Now reported.
“In her statement, the rape survivor said the perpetrators rubbed a burning substance like chili in her private parts after the sexual assault. Medical examination of the woman has been done and the medical report is awaited,” Sudha Singh, Mahoba Superintendent of Police (SP) said.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a 40-year-old man has reportedly been arrested for allegedly raping a 105-year-old woman while she was sleeping in her room in Sege in the West Ada District of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, Latin Times reported.
On July 10, Agnes Zotorvi, the victim's caregiver, reportedly heard the victim Lomokie Tanihu, 105, screaming around midday and rushed to her room to find David Addo, 40, a welder by profession, forcefully having sexual intercourse with the victim while she was asleep.
Zotorvi immediately alerted their neighbors and local law enforcement. Addo was apprehended and retrained with the help of the neighbors and handed over to Sege police.
Addo was reportedly brought before the Sege Magistrate Court on July 15, and remains in police custody to reappear in court at a later date.
Meanwhile, the victim is being treated at the Battor Roman Catholic Hospital and is expected to be discharged soon.
