A 42-year-old man has been arrested by the Shakopee Police Department for reportedly stabbing and beheading his 55-year-old girlfriend in broad daylight.

The victim was identified as America Mafalda Thayer whose body was discovered lying next to a car in Shakopee, Minneapolis by authorities per a report from KMSP.

Authorities were able to arrest the suspect, identified as Alexis Saborit, not long after the incident. He is charged with second-degree murder and is now at the Scott County Jail, according to a statement from the police.

It was also later revealed that this is not the first time that Saborit has been charged with a crime. He had previous convictions of a gross misdemeanor and domestic assault.

Thayer was a Cuban immigrant and worked at the Dollar Tree and My Pillow. Co-workers knew about her relationship with Saborit and were the ones who stated that he abused the 55-year-old woman. To most of her friends and colleagues, Thayer was best known to friends as a kind and warm person.

“She was soft spoken, so funny and always had amazing stories. She always went out of her way to say hi to me when she saw me,” Nicky Kendrick, who knew the victim for about five years, said.

Many of her colleagues were shocked to find out about the ordeal, almost in disbelief. Some people like her co-worker Jamie Worley paid tribute to the 55-year-old, someone she added worked 70 hours a week.

“I went there today and went to the store and got her a rose and a teddy bear to put on her desk. When I got there I didn’t even look at any other of my co-workers. I just stood at her desk with my head down. Everyone was just crying. It was a very emotional day and it still is,” Worley stated.

There were plans to hold a vigil on Thursday night where Thayer was killed.
