New Zealand Gun Shop Owner Who Sold Firearms to Terror Attack Suspect Supports New Call For Gun Law Reforms Will Fisher/Flickr

Aaron Carter is reportedly making his family and friends worried about him because of his erratic behavior of late. They want the authorities to take the firearms he owns, but it seems the authorities only have limited capacity to do such.

According to TMZ, unless there is an official diagnosis stating Carter is unfit to own firearms, law enforcers cannot meet the demands of Carter’s family and friends to take these weapons from him. Sources from the law enforcement told TMZ that a court, board, commission, judge or other lawful authority needs to state Carter in danger of himself and others first because of a mental condition before any action can be taken against him and his ownership of dangerous weapons.

If Carter is stated unfit to own firearms, the law enforces will first ask him to voluntarily surrender these weapons. Only when he still refuses to give up his firearms on his own accord can the enforcers seize his collection.

The LA County Sheriff Department, however, assured Carter's family and friends that they are on top of the issue.

It’s not as if Carter has been secretive of his mental state though. He just went on “The Doctors” recently and admitted to having been diagnosed as having bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Weirdly though, he told TMZ that he is mentally healthy and passed all checks to own a gun. Since his admission of his mental state in “The Doctors,” was recorded, it is quite futile to backtrack now.

On that specific episode of “The Doctors,” he shared too that he lied about his reasons for checking into rehab.

"I have to apologize to you because I lied to you when I came here," Carter said. "I have a truth that I'm going to reveal right now. The reason why I went to rehab is for huffing aerosols, duster cans, that's why I went."

He added that he needed to apologize because it allows him not to be in the denial stage.
