An abusive North Carolina mother and her boyfriend have been sentenced to prison over the extended child abuse and torture of a 22-month-old child in 2019, after the toddler was found with strangulation marks around their neck, a bruised face, and contusions all over their torso.
The accused, identified as Amber Dixon, 29, and Elton Joshua Pritchett, 39, have been slapped with jail sentences by Pitt County Superior Court Judge J.C. Cole for a 2019 child abuse case that was reportedly described as inhumane “torture” by medical authorities in the area, Law & Crime reported.
Dixon has been sentenced to 12 to 24 months in prison after she pleaded guilty to felonious child abuse by neglect in late November.
Meanwhile, Pritchett has been convicted of felonious child abuse inflicting serious physical injury and assault by strangulation. The man has been slapped with a 70- to 96-month jail sentence.
On July 7th, 2019, Dixon took her 22-month-old child to his paternal grandparents and left the toddler with them. The grandparents reportedly noticed that the child had suffered severe bruising to his head, face, torso and also found that the young victim had strangulation marks around his neck. Following the discovery, the grandparents rushed the child to an emergency room at a nearby hospital.
According to several sources that wish to remain anonymous, the child was allegedly punched in several places in the facial area and was burned with a cigarette. The toddler also had a noticeable mark around his neck that is believed to have been caused by someone who twisted his shirt tightly around the child’s neck and brutally swung him back and forth.
The child reportedly suffered numerous injuries while he was in Pritchett's custody on Penny Hill Road, WITN reported.
Dixon and Pritchett were arrested and charged in July earlier this year. Dixon was charged and subsequently released on a $25,000 secure bond. Meanwhile, Pritchett was charged with an additional count of felony strangulation as well as two misdemeanor counts of communicating threats.
He was initially afforded a $350,000 bond. However, he allegedly had an explosive outburst in the magistrate's office, forcing the authorities to levy additional charges of domestic violence and contempt of court. Pritchett was unable to make bond.
“Situations like this are always bad when they involve a child,” Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant E.W. Muse said about the incident.
