A California man is reportedly suing a Los Angeles psychic he hired for failing to remove an alleged curse put on him by his former girlfriend despite shelling out at least US$5,100.

Mauro Restrepo has reportedly filed a lawsuit against psychic Sophia Adams, a life guru and psychic love coach who runs a business called Psychic Love Specialist by Sophia, for fraud after she falsely promised him that she could help his marriage if he paid $5,100 to remove a curse allegedly put in place by the plaintiff's ex-girlfriend, Fox News reported.

Restrepo reportedly found psychic Adams after searching for psychics on Google. From the classifieds, he found Adams' website that billed her as a "Ph.D. life coach" and "psychic love coach" and believed that she was a professional psychic. Restrepo reportedly contacted Adams and the two exchanged text messages. Adams then told Restrepo to come for his session at her business address.

When Restrepo visited her office in Palos Verdes Estates, she reportedly gave him a tarot reading and told him that his ex-girlfriend had put a "mala suerte" or "bad luck" hex on him with with the help of a curse-casting witch, BBC reported.

Adams warned Restrepo that his family would be "unhappy and in danger" and that the curse would ruin him, his children, and his marriage unless he paid her $5,100 to remove it.

Restrepo reportedly paid Adams a $1,000 deposit but she "did not in any way help (his) marriage," the lawsuit said.

Restrepo claimed that he suffered anxiety and sleepless nights because of the incident. He is suing Adams for intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress along with negligence and civil conspiracy and is asking for $25,000 in damages.

The lawsuit also names Adams’ business Psychic Love Specialist by Sophia, her husband George R. Adams; her daughter, Tiffany Winston, also known as Tiffany Johnson and Tiffany Adams; and the clairvoyants Christ and Polly Koutroumbis.

Adams reportedly has licenses for psychic services and related businesses issued by the city of Gardena. She runs her business out of a leased Palos Verdes Estates home and claims to offer "intuitive and psychic readings, spiritual counseling and guidance, emotional healing" and other services.
