Drug cartels have become an epidemic within Latin America. With many cartels growing day-by-day, authorities are having a hard time getting things under control. From drug trafficking and murder, cartel leaders are getting worse with their tactics. However, it is being reported that Mexican authorities scored a win with getting an alleged leader of an assassin gang into police custody.

According to FOX News Latino, Mexican federal forces arrested an alleged leader of a band of assassins in the Pacific coast resort city of Acapulco, while in the state's mountainous interior 30 armed men kidnapped at least a dozen people. In a statement resleased government officials, authorities say that his arrest was top priority for their investigation.

Government officials announced that although they are not releasing the suspect's name, the are referring to him as Benito N. Benito was arrested due to his alleged role in recent bloodshed along the popular beach destination.

The site reports that in spite of a high security presence, killings are up 5 percent this year over a very bloody 2015 in Acapulco. Authorities say 790 homicides were recorded from January through October.

It also has been reported that the suspect was the head of assassins for the Beltran Lleyva cartel in Acapulco.

Roberto Alvarez, spokesman for security forces in the southern state of Guerrero, said state police were searching for 12 to 14 people kidnapped Thursday night from the township of Ajuchitlan del Progreso.

Alvarez also revealed that witnesses told police that about 30 armed men kidnapped the victims, which included some minors, Alvarez said. Relatives reported already receiving calls demanding ransom for their release. Local residents blamed a group called Los Tequileros.

There is no word on Benito's custody standing or any court dates in the near future.
