Based on their music genres, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have nothing in common. Shelton is a country boy through and through, while his glamorous girlfriend did rock, pop, reggae, ska and pretty much any other genre but country.

Obviously, love knows no genre as the couple seems to be going strong all these years. In fact, Stefani and Shelton will already be celebrating four years of dating this year, and they’ve become the regular subjects of marriage rumors from time to time.

Four years of dating is quite a long time by Hollywood standards. Some marriages even last only a fraction that long. Considering that they’ve been together all this time, some fans are wondering if hanging out with a city girl like Stefani might have changed her country boyfriend somehow.

But a close friend pal just confirmed that Shelton is just the country boy he knew years ago. Country singer Trace Adkins told US Weekly that while Shelton might have adjusted well to city living, “he’d rather be in Oklahoma … in the middle of the woods.”

“He just really hasn’t changed, you know?” Adkins told the publication. “Somebody asked me today, ‘Of all the country artists you know, which one do you think is really a country guy? The most authentic?’ And … you know, it’s Blake. He lives the life. He really does.”

But Shelton, who lives in Oklahoma, had to make a few changes to his home to make Stefani’s stay a little more comfortable when she visits. Apparently, stepping on dirt is an alien concept for the city-dwelling “No Doubt” vocalist, but the problem was solved by Shelton by pouring concrete in key areas around his property.

Stefani even brings her kids with her when she visits Shelton’s ranch. She has three sons in her previous marriage — Kingston, 13; Zuma, 10; and Apollo, 5 — whom she co-parents with her former husband, Gavin Rossdale.

In fact, it might be Shelton who’s rubbing off his country lifestyle to Stefani’s sons. “Blake loves getting dirty with the boys,” a source close to Gwen told US Weekly. “They’re always playing basketball or running around. They love it there because it’s just the five of them out on the land, hunting or hiking.”
