Apart from experiencing two counts of predatory sexual assault in the hands of Harvey Weinstein, Cara Delevingne revealed that she was also verbally assaulted by the producer. According to the model, Weinstein told her she would never make in Hollywood as a queer person and she would need a beard to gain a footing in the industry.

In an interview with Net-a-Porter, Delevingne opened about the effect of her queer identity on her Hollywood career, raising the reality that it was an issue at first. She was even advised to get a beard - someone who can act as her boyfriend and hide her true sexual orientation, just so she can have a chance at the industry.

"In the beginning, I don’t think it helped,” Delevingne, 27, said. “One of the first things Harvey Weinstein ever said to me was, ‘You will never make it in this industry as a gay woman – get a beard.’”

In October 2017, Delevingne was one of the women who came forward to accuse Weinstein of assault and other abusive acts. Weinstein is already set to go to trial in January 2020. He will face a total of five charges, two counts of predatory sexual assault, one on a criminal sexual act, and then two counts of rape.

“When I’d just started to audition for films, he was naming people (women) I’m friends with – famous people – and asking, ‘Have you slept with this person?’ I just thought: This is insane," Delevingne further shared.

In 2017, Delevingne claimed through an Instagram post and then subsequently released a statement to New York Magazine and Huffington Post contributor Yashar Ali the unsavory things Weinstein did to her. She recounted how the producer talked to her in a crude and suggestive matter that was just inappropriate.

"As soon as we were alone he began to brag about all the actresses he had slept with and how he had made their careers and spoke about other inappropriate things of a sexual nature," she wrote.

Good thing though that she did not listen to Weiinsten about getting a beard. She was able to penetrate Hollywood without hiding hr sexual orientation. She is also now in a relationship with “Pretty Little Liars” alum Ashely Benson. Theirs is a relationship that is known to the public and yet Delevingne still has her career up and running.

She explained her relationship with Benson, even if it is long-distance and even though she did not immediately trust the connection, as something that makes her a “better, happier person.”
