Chris Broussard was on ESPN's Outside The Lines discussing Jason Collins announcement; Collins came out as a first openly gay athlete. NBA player, Jason Collins revealed his homosexuality on the cover of Sports Illustrated, which led analyst Chris Brossard to discuss his immediate opinions on the matter on a special-hour episode of Outside The Lines which was specially devoted to covering the effects of Collins remarkable announcement.
Broussard did not hold back when revealing his harsh opinions in regards to homosexuality stating that, "If you're openly living that type of lifestyle, the bible says you know them by their fruits, it says that that's a sin." Broussard compared homosexuality to any other sex outside of marriage. "If you're openly living in unrepentant sin, whatever it may be, I believe that's walking in open rebellion to God and Jesus Christ."
While Broussard was on Outside The Lines to discuss potential effects that would occur with an openly gay player in the NBA, it seems his religious beliefs took over the interview. In Collins' interview with Sports Illustrated, he stated that he was Christian, but Broussard denied Collins claim to Christianity stating, "I would not characterize that person [anyone who lives in unrepentant sin] as a Christian, because I don't think that the Bible would consider him a Christian."
Contrastingly to the above statements, Broussard had previously wrote that the NBA was "ready" for an openly gay player, he seems to retract his statements, saying that a lot of players would be uncomfortable with a gay player in their locker room. "I've had some players say that they would be uncomfortable with a gay player in the locker room.... but no one is going to necessarily come out and say anything... If he doesn't get signed next year, it probably won't be because he came out as gay. He's towards the end of his career and not that good anymore."
