Lifetime is continuing its adaptation of V.C. Andrew’s Dollanganger series, with “Petals on the Wind.” The new made for TV movie is the sequel to the cultural phenomenon “Flowers in the Attic,” and will pick up where the haunting history of Cathy and Chris left off.

Originally released in 1980, the novel was a number one best seller in North America in the early 1980s and now Lifetime is attempting to reboot the terrifying tale to enthrall a completely new generation of viewers. Simply based off the trailer, and promotional posters, Lifetime has peaked many interests and before the highly anticipated May 26 release date arrives, Latin Times has collected a few fast facts on “Petals on the Wind” which are sure to get you excited for the forthcoming “Flowers in the Attic” sequel.

“Petals on the Wind” will pick up where “Flowers in the Attic” left off, starting in 1960 with the Dollanganger sibling’s escape from Foxworth Hall to Florida. Due to the arsenic poisoning from their mother, Corinne and grandmother, Olivia, the youngest Dollanganger, Carrie, grows very ill on the journey south. And despite Cathy and Chris’s newfound independence, they are still nearly children and will need assistance to help Carrie recover.

Despite the timeline picking up where “Flowers in the Attic” left off, Cathy, Chris, and Carrie will be different both psychically and mentally. “Once Upon A Time’s” Rose McIver will be replacing Kiernan Shipka of “Mad Men” in the role of Cathy, while Wyatt Nash of “Pretty Little Liars” will play Chris. Bailey Buntain, of ABC Family’s “Bunheads,” will replace Carrie, the youngest Dollanganer, who was a mere toddler when climbing from the attic. Both Heather Graham and Academy Award Winner Ellen Burstyn will reprise their roles as Corrine and Olivia.

As both Chris and Cathy grow older through “Petals on the Wind” they will attempt to build a new life in South Carolina, then later in New York. However, the pair will somehow find themselves once again drawn to the attic that held them captive for over 3 years. McIver revealed the true desires that Cathy holds on to for several years.

In an interview with TheWrap, McIver revealed, “I can understand that with what [Cathy has] been through, she seeks this deep seeded vengeance. It's very understandable that these people have wronged her and what she wants to do, but it's the perfect example of revenge really hurts you just as much as it hurts the other people. So, I can't help but feel so sad and protective of this character as she makes these decision which aren't necessarily beneficial to her future.”

Cathy will not be the only Dollanganger to encounter their long lost mother Corinne. In a sneak peek image from Lifetime, the grown Carrie will be seen speaking with her mother Corinne, who is as beautiful as ever. The young girl, who barely remembers her mother, is shown handed her an envelope. While it is unclear what exactly is in the envelope, fans believe this will be an adaption of the scene when Carrie attempted to reconnect with her mother only to be rebuffed painfully. Lastly, Chris and Cathy’s incestuous relationship will continue throughout “Petals on the Wind.” However many men will enter the beautiful Cathy’s life. Fans should prepare for passionate arguments and of course make-ups.
