Colombia looks to be in prime shape to win a spot in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil after Tuesday's game. The team tore through Peru, defeating its opponent 2-0.
The two goals came from Radamel Falcao and Teofilio Gutierrez in the South American qualifying game, the Associated Press reported. Falcao converted a penalty in the 13th minute of play, while Gutierrez scored in first-half stoppage time. Colombia improved its standings with 26 points in 13 games. Peru still lags behind with only 14 points in the same number of games.
The top four teams in each group advance automatically while the fifth-place teams face a playoff match for a chance at a spot. Colombia closed the gap between itself and Argentina, holding on to second place following the game while Peru stayed in sixth.
